Covenant's Biology Department is now officially part of Tri-Beta!
As many of you may have heard, Covenant College has started its very own chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the national biology honors society. Last year, the Biology Club applied at the national headquarters and last semester Dr. Martin, a representative for Tri-Beta came to visit Covenant to determine whether or not a chapter would be approved here. Well, the waiting is over. We have been officially approved to start our own chapter! The chapter has already held inductions, a leadership board has been created  and this will take over the responsibilities of our current Biology Club.

About Tri-Beta

Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Since its founding in 1922, more than 175,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 430 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

TriBeta was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University--the Alpha Chapter--by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and a group of his students. The idea of an honor and professional society for biology students spread rapidly and by 1925, the society was a national organization. Biennial national conventions of student and faculty members began in that year and in 1930 the society journal, BIOS, began publication of student research, articles of interest to biologists and society news. As the society grew, it was divided into regional and district groups, each of which holds a convention annually. At the heart of every district and national meeting are student research papers presented in the style of graduate meetings. Awards are given for outstanding individual and chapter accomplishment.  To learn more, visit the official TriBeta Website: http://www.tri-beta.org/

What this means for you!

Because we have been granted this great honor, we hope to become active and useful members in our chapter.   Those of us on the Leadership Board have spent many hours planning and praying for our first year as members of TriBeta. We will continue to update through this website and other means the different events, speakers, and service projects we plan to implement through the course of the semester. It is our hope to ultimately engage not only those of us officially in Tri Beta, but all those who have an interest in biology  by continuing to delve into the wonderful of biology and all of God's creation.
